Phoenixville, PA – March 8, 2009

With round two of the Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge looming this weekend, the Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT) views the upcoming race to run March 14 at Homestead-Miami Speedway as an opportunity to build upon their strong 2nd place finish in Daytona and leave Florida with valuable championship points firmly in-hand.

“Our pole and second place finish at Daytona [International Speedway] in January gave us cause for optimism,” said Joe Aquilante, owner of the Phoenixville, Pa.-based Phoenix Racing team which builds the team’s Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B race car and serves as factory race partner for Subaru of America, Inc.

“The Subaru symmetrical all-wheel drive system should serve as an advantage exiting the infield turns at Homestead-Miami, and the turbocharged 2.5 liter boxer engine configuration will help on the oval track which makes up about 70% of a lap,” Aquilante added.

SRRT teammates, Andrew Aquilante, Chester Springs, Pa., and Kris Skavnes, Sparta, N.J., will again share the #111 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B, which qualified on the pole in Daytona, led 31 laps and finished second in the race over a field of 32 other Street Tuner competitors. The duo combined to lead the most laps of the race, while Andrew Aquilante’s 29 laps led were the most of any driver in the two-class race.

This is the third season for the Subaru Road Racing Team, with its Subaru Legacy in the Street Tuner class of the KONI Sports Car Challenge series.

“Our result from Daytona bodes well for our race season and is a positive testament to the team’s ability to build a competitive race unit from our performance-oriented Legacy platform”, said James Han, motorsports marketing manager for Subaru of America, Inc. “It’s early in the season but I feel confident that the team’s winter preparations will pay us dividends.”

Practice for the race is Thursday and Friday on the 2.3-mile, 11-turn layout which uses three-fourths of the track’s NASCAR oval, before diving into the infield portion of the track.

Qualifying will be Friday at 4:05pm ET, with the 2 ½-hour race taking the green flag Saturday at 2:30pm.
