Subaru Road Racing Team Returns to Miller Motorsports Park as Racing Season Winds Down

- Aquilante, Skavnes currently second in Drivers’ Championship -

Phoenixville, PA – September 17, 2009

The tenth of 11 races in the 2009 Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge series season, this weekend’s 2.5-hour run on the massive 4.486-mile, 24-turn road course west of Salt Lake City in the Utah desert, known as Miller Motorsports Park, will take place on Friday, Sept. 18 at 4pm ET.

Andrew Aquilante and Kristian Skavnes, co-drivers in the Subaru Road Racing Team’s (SRRT) #111 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B, will enter the race sitting in second place in the Street Tuner class points, 25 points from the championship lead.

“Consistency has been our team’s focus the entire season,’ said SRRT owner Joe Aquilante, “and that theme will continue to serve us well. We’re approaching Miller as simply another race on another track with its own specialized challenges. Our goal is always to adapt our Subaru Legacy GT spec.B to the vagaries of each track.”

“Seven of our finishes this year have placed us between second and seventh place. That’s decent consistency,” Aquilante added. “We still have an opportunity to earn the championship and will strive to reach that goal. We have a reliable and competitive car in the Subaru Legacy plus dependable, consistent drivers in Kristian and Andrew.”

“Miller Motorsports Park represents a unique track on the racing calendar with its over 4,000-foot altitude challenge and lengthy mileage distance per lap,” said James Han, motorsports marketing manager for Subaru of America, Inc.

“Frugal fuel consumption and a well-timed pit strategy are always important, but the nature of Miller Park makes those items even more prominent than usual, just based on the nature of this race track. That said, our previous experience at Miller should serve us well, and I’m confident of our chances for a strong finish,” he added.

Round 10 of the series will be a one-day in-and-out for the KONI series teams, with practice at the local breakfast hour, qualifying in late afternoon and the 2.5-hour race at supper time.
